Kids in Force

Introduction

In 2010 Sage Fruit Company implemented the Kids in Force program to educate our youth on the importance of health and nutrition ultimately empowering them to their full potential and a healthier lifestyle.

Childhood Obesity is a growing epidemic that is affecting our future. School programing has struggled with funding for Health Education and after school activities leaving our children without healthy options. Through Kids in Force, we hope to educate and get our children involved in making healthy eating decisions as well as encouraging them to play and get physical activity each day.

The Kids in Force program is a free service to our community. Parents can find resources and tools on the Sage Fruit website about health and nutrition. Our website has a special section for kids to interact and learn with various downloadable activities like coloring sheets, connect the dots and games. These activities have been created to help educate our youth on the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Given the alarming increase in childhood obesity and diabetes, we must make changes now to promote health and chronic disease prevention as adults.

Nutrition

Diet plays a key role in an individual’s health, appearance, performance, and well-being. With the busy lifestyles of many parents, as well as the lack of funding in many of our schools, children are often lacking proper nutrition on diets high in fat, sugar, and preservatives. It’s important to provide healthy alternatives to these diets.

Sage Fruit wants to encourage children to make healthier snack choices. By providing great tasting and healthy alternatives through our resources, we hope to influence better Grocery buying habits and changes in the household. These important decisions first start in the home and affect behaviors in other environments.

Get out and play!

Studies show that youth should engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity for a minimum of 20 minutes, three or more days of the week to promote health and chronic disease prevention as adults. The National Association for Sport and Physical Education emphasizes the need to initiate even higher levels of activity in younger children of elementary school age. It is recommended that at least 30 to 60 minutes of activity on most, or all, days of the week is focused on with developmentally appropriate activities.
