Kids in Force
In 2010, Sage Fruit Company implemented the Kids in Force program in order to educate our youth on the importance of health and nutrition. Childhood Obesity is a growing epidemic that is affecting our future, and through our program, we hope to encourage children to make healthier decisions.
The Kids in Force program is a free service to our community. Kids can download activities from our website that allow them to interact and learn about nutrition and leading a healthy lifestyle. Not only are we encouraging healthier eating, but we are highlighting the importance of daily exercise.
The outline of the program is simple - the more you decide to eat healthy and get daily activity, the more points you get! Kids log their activities and food choices, and their points add up to be redeemed for prizes.

Originally developed in the uplands of Central Otago in New Zealand, Sonya apples are now being grown in the rich volcanic soils in Washington's Yakima Valley. In this fertile lowlands micro climate, the Sonya apple is cultivated to maximize flavor and size. This crisp, refreshing apple, available from December through April, is a cross between a Gala and Red Delicious only sweeter (high brix level) with a unique aroma.
Characterized by a distinctive broad shouldered shape, a Sonya is bi-colored with a light-to-dark red over a creamy-to-yellow background. A very pleasant and tasty apple, the Sonya is delicious straight from the fridge or served with a favorite cheese, in salads, or baked into pastries and pies. Known for an excellent shelf-life, the Sonya maintains a firm texture and is relatively easy to handle and store.
Exceptionally Sweet All Year Round
Sonya apples are grown on 400 acres in Washington State's Yakima Valley, an area similar to the climate in New Zealand where the variety was first developed in 2002. The Verbrugge family of Valley Fruit first found the apple variety in New Zealand with their two partners while looking for a new fruit to bring to market in North America. Initially drawn to its appearance, the Sonya's taste and grower friendliness are what sold them.
Today, Valley Fruit, Price Cold Storage and Congdon Orchards are the three grower/packer licensees for Sonya in North America. In their carefully managed orchards, the apples are grown with a commitment to quality and producing flavorful fruit. The variety is bred to be vigorously disease-resistant and grows in a minimally-fertilized culture friendly to the environment. Widely known as an exceptionally sweet apple with good crunch, the Sonya's firmness translates into an excellent apple for growers to store and for retailers/consumers to keep fresh and sweet longer.
